Simon Forrest is a respected Wadjuk Ballardong Nyoongar Elder with kin connections to the Badimia and Wongutha peoples. With a lifelong commitment to education, culture and community, Simon has dedicated decades to teaching, leadership and advocacy across Western Australia. Simon began his career as a teacher, working across remote Aboriginal communities, rural towns and regional centres before moving into senior public sector roles in Aboriginal education, curriculum development and Indigenous affairs policy. He later joined the university sector, contributing over 35 years of service until his retirement in 2019, shaping cultural understanding and educational practice for generations of students.

As a Wadjuk Elder, Simon has delivered Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremonies at major events including international, national and state conferences; West Coast Eagles and Western Force Indigenous Round games; Curtin University graduations, building openings and academic ceremonies; school assemblies; and countless community and corporate gatherings. His guidance, cultural leadership and grounded presence make him a highly respected figure within both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
