Samantha Riley OAM – Olympic Medalist | World Champion | Business Leader

Samantha Riley is one of Australia’s greatest ever swimmers and among the nation’s most recognised sporting personalities. A champion of the pool in the 1990s, Samantha’s career was defined by her enthusiasm, commitment and strong desire to win. She retired in 2001, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, determination and inspiration.

During her illustrious career, Samantha achieved three Olympic medals, two World Championship gold medals, five Commonwealth Games medals (four gold), and nine Pan Pacific Games medals. She also set three world records and two Commonwealth records. In 1992 and 1996, Samantha represented Australia at the Barcelona and Atlanta Olympic Games, winning one silver and two bronze medals, making history as the first Australian Indigenous athlete to win an Olympic medal.

Her accolades include being named World Female Swimmer of the Year (1994), Queensland and Australian Sportsperson of the Year (1994), and being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her services to swimming.

Since retiring, Samantha has become a successful businesswoman, establishing the Sam Riley Swim Schools, where she inspires the next generation of swimmers. She is also a sought-after keynote speaker and respected advocate for women, sport and community development.

Samantha has contributed to a wide range of charitable causes, including the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre’s Great Walk to Beijing, the Raise Foundation, the Royal Life Saving Keep Watch program, Mater Healthy Start, and Asthma Australia.
